About Organisation

The Mediterranean Wetlands Initiative (MedWet) is a regional intergovernmental network established under the Ramsar Convention, dedicated to conserving and sustainably managing Mediterranean wetlands. It unites 27 Mediterranean countries, the Ramsar Secretariat, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs, and national institutions to promote collaborative, science-based action for wetland protection. Headquartered within the Ramsar framework, MedWet serves as a hub for knowledge-sharing, research, and policy advocacy. By facilitating cooperation among governments, civil society, and scientific experts, MedWet works to ensure the wise use of wetlands — critical ecosystems that support biodiversity, regulate water cycles, and provide livelihoods for millions across the region. Its mission extends to restoring degraded wetland habitats, influencing policy for sustainable land and water management, and building awareness about the socio-environmental value of wetlands.

About the Grant

To commemorate World Wetlands Day 2026 (2 February), MedWet is launching a call for projects funded by the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB). The grant supports Mediterranean organizations in implementing educational and awareness initiatives focused on wetland conservation. The primary objectives are to promote understanding of wetland importance, encourage community participation, and strengthen the regional network of wetland advocates. Projects may include cultural events, workshops, debates, exhibitions, nature walks, film screenings, or participatory science activities. Priority will be given to initiatives targeting young audiences (up to 25 years old) or creating reusable educational tools. Selected applicants will contribute to MedWet’s mission by fostering local engagement and environmental stewardship. Recipients must grant MedWet the rights to reproduce and share materials created under the project, ensuring wider dissemination of conservation knowledge.

Who can Apply?

Eligible applicants include organizations, NGOs, educational institutions, and community groups operating in Mediterranean countries that align with MedWet’s goals of conservation, education, and awareness. Applicants should demonstrate prior experience in environmental education, wetland management, or youth engagement. Proposals must clearly outline the intended impact, target audience, and long-term benefits of the activity. Priority is given to projects focusing on youth awareness, community involvement, and actions that can extend beyond World Wetlands Day. The funding supports projects that are inclusive, replicable, and environmentally sustainable. Applicants must agree to share documentation and outputs freely with MedWet for non-commercial educational use. Activities that strengthen collaboration between stakeholders—such as local authorities, schools, and conservationists—are encouraged. MedWet seeks initiatives that are innovative yet practical, combining scientific understanding with public engagement to promote wetlands as vital ecosystems in the Mediterranean context.

How to Apply?

Interested applicants must prepare a detailed proposal describing their project concept, objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes. Applications should be submitted following the official call for projects guidelines provided by MedWet. All required documents must be submitted before the specified deadline. Projects will be evaluated based on relevance, creativity, educational value, and potential for long-term impact in wetland conservation.

Application Deadline

The application deadline for the MedWet World Wetlands Day 2026 project funding is 10 November 2025. Late submissions will not be considered for evaluation.
