About Organisation
The United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH) is a research and policy institute within the United Nations University that focuses on advancing global health equity and strengthening health governance. The institute works as a policy translation hub for UN Member States, agencies, and partners by generating research and evidence that informs global health policies. Its work focuses on four key areas: gender equality and intersectionality, power and accountability, digital health security and governance, and climate justice and health. UNU-IIGH integrates perspectives such as feminism, intersectionality, and decolonial approaches to address structural drivers of health inequalities worldwide.
About the Grant
The Global Health PhD Fellowship Programme offers doctoral candidates the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applied research, policy analysis, and knowledge translation within the UN system. Fellows are embedded within UNU-IIGH’s research teams and contribute to policy-relevant projects that support governments, UN agencies, and global health partners. Each fellow works under the mentorship of a UNU-IIGH researcher and participates in research activities such as literature reviews, policy briefs, and academic publications. Fellows may also co-develop reports or journal manuscripts aligned with their PhD research. The programme aims to strengthen policy-oriented research skills and deepen engagement with global health governance processes.
