The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been operational in Trinidad and Tobago since 1961, extending its work to the Dutch Autonomous countries of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten. About the Grant
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), managed by UNDP, supports civil society organisations through financial and technical assistance to address environmental and developmental challenges. The 2025 funding cycle invites NGOs, CBOs, village councils, academic institutions, and activist groups to propose innovative projects under key themes: community-based conservation of ecosystems and species, sustainable agriculture and fisheries, low-carbon energy access, chemicals and waste management, and water conservation. Projects must demonstrate sustainability, community participation, and long-term impact. Two grant types are available: Planning Grants of up to USD 5,000 and Full Grants of up to USD 50,000.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include civil society organisations, NGOs, community-based organisations (CBOs), village councils, and academic or activist groups based in Trinidad and Tobago. Applicants must propose community-driven initiatives that align with one or more of the SGP thematic areas. Projects should promote inclusive participation, environmental protection, and sustainable livelihoods. Collaborative proposals involving multiple CSOs or partnerships between CSOs and local enterprises are encouraged. All projects must show measurable outcomes and a clear plan for sustainability and replication beyond the grant period.
