About Organisation
The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) is an intergovernmental organisation operating within the United Nations Common System. It serves as a global centre of excellence for research, training, and technology transfer in life sciences and biotechnology. Guided by its vision of “Science for Development,” ICGEB integrates cutting-edge scientific research with capacity building to promote sustainable development worldwide. The organisation advances innovation in biomedicine, agriculture, environmental protection, and industrial biotechnology through its laboratories and collaborative networks across member states.
About the Grant
The Arturo Falaschi Short-term PhD Fellowships support pre-doctoral researchers undertaking collaborative research in ICGEB laboratories located in Trieste, New Delhi, and Cape Town. Designed to strengthen scientific capacity, the fellowship enables scholars from ICGEB member states to access advanced research facilities and acquire specialised skills. Fellowships range from one to twelve months and provide financial, travel, and insurance support. The programme promotes international collaboration, exposure to modern techniques, and hands-on research experience in molecular biology and biotechnology.
Who can Apply?
Applicants must be nationals of an ICGEB member state and should not apply to undertake the fellowship in their home country, unless currently working abroad. Candidates applying to Trieste or Cape Town must hold a BSc (Honours) degree, while applicants for New Delhi must possess an MSc degree. A good working knowledge of English is required, supported by certification unless English was the medium of instruction. Applicants must secure prior agreement and a written statement from an ICGEB Group Leader supporting the proposed research.
How to Apply?
Applicants must submit an online application and may apply only once per call. Prior to applying, candidates should contact an ICGEB Group Leader to discuss project feasibility and obtain a mandatory written statement of support.
