About Organisation

CivicDataLab is a research and innovation lab working at the intersection of data, technology, design, and social science to strengthen civic engagement in India. It supports open knowledge movements and helps citizens participate meaningfully in public reform and governance. CivicDataLab also builds data and technology capacity across government bodies, nonprofits, think tanks, universities, media organisations, and other institutions. By enabling data-driven decision-making and collaborative public problem-solving, it contributes to more transparent, inclusive, and evidence-based development outcomes at scale.

About the Grant

The AI-DAN (AI-Dataset Ambassadors Network) Accelerator Program is a 6-month fellowship under the Dataset Onboarding Support Team initiative led by CivicDataLab in collaboration with Bhashini and supported by the Gates Foundation under MeitY. The fellowship focuses on strengthening India’s multilingual AI infrastructure by onboarding high-quality, state-specific linguistic datasets to platforms such as Bhashini and AI Kosh. Fellows work across language technology, digital public infrastructure, and community engagement to ensure cultural representation, linguistic diversity, and quality dataset contributions to India’s AI ecosystem.

Who can Apply?

Applicants must have a completed Master’s degree in relevant fields such as linguistics, computational linguistics, language technology, computer science, public policy, or related disciplines. Candidates should have 1–2 years of experience in stakeholder research, participatory research, or community engagement. Strong proficiency (native or professional) in the official language(s) of the selected state or city is required. Applicants should also have basic technical aptitude in digital platforms and data management and be willing to work in a hybrid mode with regular field visits. PhD holders and candidates with government engagement experience are preferred.
