About Organisation
Global Biodiversity Information Facility is an international network supported by governments worldwide to provide open access to biodiversity data. Through the GBIF Graduate Researchers Award 2026, the organization promotes global collaboration in biodiversity science. Coordinated from Copenhagen, GBIF enables institutions to share data on species distribution using standardized tools and practices. Its database includes historical records and modern scientific data such as DNA barcoding and digital observations. By facilitating access to reliable biodiversity information, GBIF strengthens research, conservation, and policy-making efforts across the globe.
About the Grant
The GBIF Graduate Researchers Award 2026 recognizes outstanding master’s and PhD students whose research uses GBIF-mediated biodiversity data. The programme highlights innovative work in biodiversity informatics, including fields like ecology, taxonomy, and biogeography. Two awards of €5,000 each will be granted to early-career researchers demonstrating scientific excellence and impactful findings. The initiative aims to encourage the use of open-access biodiversity data in research and to support emerging scientists contributing to environmental knowledge. It is a prestigious opportunity for graduate students working on global biodiversity challenges.
