The UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences recognizes outstanding contributions to the improvement of human life through scientific advancements. Established in 2008 by UNESCO’s Executive Board and funded by the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Prize underscores the role of life sciences in fostering sustainable development and achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences rewards exceptional scientific contributions that significantly improve the quality of human life. Funded by the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Prize has a total value of $300,000, shared among up to three laureates annually. It acknowledges achievements in medicine, biology, agriculture, environmental sciences, and emerging technologies, encouraging innovations that address critical global challenges. By celebrating groundbreaking research, the Prize supports UNESCO’s mission of advancing knowledge and fostering sustainable development. It also emphasizes inclusivity, aligning with the “BETTER LIFE” vision targeting SDGs 1, 2, 5, 8, and 10. Winners are celebrated at an official UNESCO ceremony, further inspiring the global scientific community.

Who can Apply?

The Prize is open to individuals, groups, institutions, and NGOs contributing to life sciences. Nominations must be submitted by designated authorities, including UNESCO Member States through National Commissions or NGOs officially partnered with UNESCO in relevant fields. Each Member State or NGO may submit up to five nominations. Eligible candidates must demonstrate impactful contributions to the Prize’s objectives, with work that showcases significant advancements in improving human life. Self-nominations and incomplete applications are not considered. Selection is based on the recommendation of an International Jury, which evaluates applications to identify winners.

How to Apply?

Candidates must secure endorsement from a National Commission or NGO. After registration, they complete an online form in English or French, detailing contributions, research, and publications.
