About Organisation
The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) is the apex national body for promoting social science and humanities research in India. Established in 1969 under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, ICSSR supports high-quality research, capacity building, fellowships, publications, and national and international collaborations. Through its recognised institutes, regional centres, and the National Social Science Documentation Centre (NASSDOC), ICSSR strengthens research infrastructure and evidence-based policymaking. Its mission is to advance social science research excellence and contribute meaningfully to national development and informed governance.
About the Grant
The ICSSR Grant-in-Aid for Maintenance and Development (2025–26) supports professional associations and organisations of social scientists for strengthening their institutional capacity. The grant assists with office maintenance, library development, equipment purchase, and other essential administrative needs. ICSSR also considers one-time or innovative grants for organisations of national importance or initiatives benefiting the broader social science community. Special consideration is given to organisations working on professional development or research related to SC/ST communities. Funding is provided annually and may continue for up to five years, subject to review.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include professional associations, organisations, companies, or trusts of social scientists registered under relevant Acts. Privately funded organisations must be registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, have at least two years of standing, and maintain a nationwide membership of no fewer than 200 members. Applicants must be actively engaged in socio-economic research at national, regional, or local levels. Organisations primarily involved in extension or social welfare activities are not eligible. Submission of audited accounts, annual reports, and membership details for the past three years is mandatory.

Applicants must complete the prescribed Grant-in-Aid application form and submit it with all required annexures, including organisational details, audited accounts, annual reports, and leadership credentials. Applications must be submitted online, followed by a duly forwarded hard copy along with supporting documents to ICSSR within the stipulated timeline.

Applications for the ICSSR Grant-in-Aid for Maintenance and Development for the financial year 2025–26 must be submitted by 31 December 2025.
