About Organisation

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is a leading global organization dedicated to promoting the rights and well-being of every child. With a presence in over 190 countries and territories, UNICEF works closely with governments, communities, and partners to provide health care, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and protection for children and mothers. The organization emphasizes equity and prioritizes the most vulnerable populations, including women and children in underserved regions. UNICEF’s health initiatives focus on maternal and newborn health, immunization, and strengthening health systems. In India, UNICEF supports a wide range of public health and development programs, particularly in aspirational districts with poor health indicators. Through technical support and capacity building, UNICEF empowers frontline workers and strengthens institutional frameworks to improve child and maternal health outcomes. The organization’s initiatives are data-driven, evidence-based, and focused on sustainable, long-term impact. In line with its commitment to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality, UNICEF continues to invest in strengthening the healthcare delivery system, especially at the grassroots level, by building the capacities of key personnel such as Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and trainers.

About the Grant

UNICEF is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to provide technical support for capacity building of frontline health workers in India, with a specific focus on high-risk pregnancy (HRP) identification, tracking, and management. The objective of this grant is to enhance the knowledge and skills of trainers and healthcare workers to improve maternal and newborn outcomes in aspirational districts. The initiative will cover 108 districts across Uttar Pradesh and aims to ensure timely identification and appropriate management of HRPs by trained health professionals. The project aims to train 225 state-level trainers, 1,800 district-level trainers, and 3,750 ANMs by March 2026. The selected organization will be responsible for designing and executing training modules, conducting pre- and post-training assessments, and submitting detailed training reports. This initiative supports the broader goal of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality by strengthening healthcare services at the community level. The grant offers an indicative budget of ₹69 lakhs to implement the proposed activities efficiently. The technical partner will play a crucial role in driving systemic change and improving service delivery through continuous capacity building and knowledge dissemination.

Who can Apply?

Eligible applicants include registered organizations with a proven track record in public health, particularly maternal and newborn care. Applicants must demonstrate prior experience in capacity building of health workers, preferably in large-scale government or multilateral health initiatives. Experience working in Uttar Pradesh or similar aspirational districts will be an added advantage. The organization should possess strong technical expertise in HRP identification, obstetric care, and healthcare training methodologies. In addition, they must have the ability to design, conduct, and assess multi-level training programs. Non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and technical support agencies with relevant field experience are encouraged to apply. Applicants must also have a clear understanding of the local healthcare infrastructure, data management tools, and health information systems. Financial management capacity, compliance with ethical standards, and a robust monitoring and evaluation framework will be key evaluation criteria. The organization should be able to collaborate effectively with government departments, local bodies, and frontline health workers to ensure efficient implementation and reporting of the initiative.
