About Organisation
The African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) is a regional initiative committed to supporting African stakeholders in addressing the intertwined challenges of climate change, peace, and security. AGNES focuses on equipping policymakers, civil society, researchers, and practitioners with essential tools and skills to navigate the complexities of climate impacts on socio-political systems. The organization operates with a mission to foster inclusive, evidence-based solutions that enhance resilience and sustainability across African communities. Recognizing the interconnectedness of environmental degradation, conflict, and instability, AGNES places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary learning, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative policy development. By building technical capacity and promoting strategic partnerships, AGNES plays a critical role in shaping regional and international dialogues on climate resilience, sustainable peace, and human security. Its initiatives are grounded in a people-centered approach, prioritizing gender equality, social inclusion, and localized solutions that empower vulnerable populations most affected by the climate crisis.
About the Grant
The Climate, Peace and Security Programme by AGNES is a timely initiative aimed at addressing the growing overlap between climate change and security threats in Africa. The programme seeks to enhance the capacity of individuals and institutions to design and implement solutions that mitigate climate-induced risks while promoting peace and resilience. Participants will be guided through an interdisciplinary curriculum covering areas such as climate stressors, environmental migration, early warning systems, conflict-sensitive programming, and integrated policy frameworks. The program is structured to offer both theoretical grounding and practical tools, enabling learners to understand the drivers of conflict stemming from environmental changes and to formulate adaptive responses. The programme’s ultimate objective is to establish a network of skilled professionals who can contribute to peacebuilding and policy reform across local, national, and international levels through climate-informed interventions. Participants will engage in scenario planning, action simulations, and collaborative project development to solidify their learning and real-world application.
Who can Apply?
The programme is open to a diverse group of professionals and stakeholders who are actively working or aspiring to work at the intersection of climate, peace, and security. Eligible applicants include policymakers and government officials involved in climate and security governance, peacebuilders and conflict resolution practitioners, and personnel from environmental and humanitarian NGOs. Members of the military and security sectors, academic researchers, and university students in related fields are also encouraged to apply. Staff from UN and international agencies, along with community leaders and civil society actors operating in conflict-affected or climate-vulnerable areas, are particularly welcomed. Ideal candidates should demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development, social inclusion, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Applicants must show a keen interest in developing analytical and practical skills for climate-conflict analysis, designing context-sensitive responses, and contributing to integrated policy frameworks that support peace, resilience, and environmental justice.
How to Apply?
Interested candidates can submit their applications directly through the AGNES platform. Applicants should prepare relevant documents, including a statement of interest, updated CV, and any supporting materials showcasing their work or involvement in the climate-security domain.
