About Organisation

The Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) is dedicated to creating a world without lung cancer by funding innovative research. Over the years, the organization has evolved, but its commitment to improving lung cancer outcomes remains steadfast. By investing in groundbreaking research, LCRF aims to enhance prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and ultimately, the cure of lung cancer. The foundation believes in the power of collective effort, fostering collaborations among researchers, healthcare professionals, and institutions to accelerate advancements in the field.

LCRF supports scientific initiatives that explore new diagnostic tools, molecular screening techniques, and treatment strategies to combat lung cancer effectively. As lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, the foundation prioritizes research that can lead to early detection and improved patient outcomes. By funding researchers at various career stages, LCRF ensures continuous progress in understanding and addressing lung cancer at all levels. Through its grants, the organization empowers researchers to develop novel approaches that contribute to early diagnosis and increased survivorship.

About the Grant

Lung cancer remains the primary cause of cancer-related deaths, with over 125,070 fatalities annually in the United States. Early detection significantly improves prognosis, particularly in Stage I lung cancer. The current standard screening method, low-dose computed tomography (LDCT), is primarily recommended for individuals with a significant smoking history. However, with advancements in molecular screening and biomarker research, early detection methods continue to evolve.

LCRF offers funding to support research focused on prevention and early detection of lung cancer. This grant seeks to enhance risk stratification, identify new biomarkers, develop predictive and diagnostic tools, and explore genomic and histological techniques. Additionally, research into liquid biopsy assays, novel imaging modalities, implementation science, and epidemiology studies are encouraged. The ultimate goal is to detect lung cancer at its earliest stages, leading to increased survival rates and better patient outcomes. The grant provides financial support to investigators exploring innovative technologies and approaches that can revolutionize lung cancer detection and prevention.

Who can Apply?

The grant is open to post-doctoral researchers, clinical fellows, and early to mid-career investigators with less than ten years of experience since their initial faculty appointment. Applicants must be affiliated with a non-profit academic or research institution. Both U.S.-based and international researchers are eligible, regardless of their residency or citizenship status.

Applicants who have received LCRF funding within the past four years are not eligible to apply. Additionally, candidates cannot apply for more than one LCRF funding track in the same grant cycle. Senior investigators with more than ten years of faculty experience are generally ineligible; however, they can mentor junior researchers through the application process. Exceptions may be made for those with experience in other disease areas. Prospective applicants with special eligibility concerns must contact the LCRF grants office at least one week before the submission deadline for review. Applications that do not meet eligibility requirements will not be considered after the deadline.
