Call for 7th Edition: Biomedical Sciences Research Grant in India

Application Deadline:
21 August 2025
About Organisation
The Sree Padmavathi Venkateswara Foundation (SreePVF) is a forward-looking philanthropic institution committed to fostering transformative change through science and technology. Since its establishment, the Foundation has actively supported initiatives that contribute to national development, with a particular emphasis on healthcare, education, and scientific advancement. In 2020, SreePVF restructured its biomedical research grant program to concentrate on “bench to bedside” translational research. This strategic shift underscores the Foundation’s intent to bridge the gap between fundamental scientific discoveries and their real-world applications in clinical settings. By investing in translational projects, SreePVF seeks to accelerate innovations that can directly enhance patient care, public health, and medical knowledge. The Foundation promotes a research ecosystem where collaboration, novelty, and measurable impact are central. Its approach emphasizes support for bold ideas backed by qualified individuals and credible institutions. Through this grant initiative, SreePVF continues to position itself as a catalyst in India’s biomedical landscape, nurturing projects that can create scalable, ready-to-deploy solutions. In addition to financial support, the Foundation promotes meaningful partnerships and collaborations across academic institutions, research centers, and medical organizations, including those with international scope. With a focus on quality, impact, and feasibility, SreePVF remains steadfast in its mission to support projects with tangible health outcomes.
About the Grant
The 7th Edition of the Biomedical Sciences Research Grant by the Sree Padmavathi Venkateswara Foundation is designed to support high-impact, translational research projects in India. The focus is on “bench to bedside” initiatives that bridge laboratory discoveries with clinical applications, ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing public health. This edition emphasizes funding for innovative proposals from not-for-profit research institutions across the country, including universities, R&D centers, and medical institutions. The grant supports one major project that shows strong potential to deliver a measurable, positive impact on human health.
Applicants are expected to submit proposals that demonstrate scientific rigor, feasibility, and novelty. Research must aim to create solutions that can be effectively deployed in healthcare settings within a foreseeable timeframe. The Foundation prioritizes projects with translational value, where research findings are likely to benefit human health in a practical and timely manner. Proposals should reflect ambition, innovation, and the ability to deliver scalable health interventions.
This grant provides both financial assistance and recognition, encouraging researchers to think big and collaborate across disciplines. While international collaborations are welcome, the lead institution must be based in India. The initiative reflects SreePVF’s long-term commitment to fostering sustainable healthcare advancements through research excellence.
Who can Apply?
The grant is open to individuals and teams from not-for-profit research organizations in India, including universities, medical colleges, and R&D institutions. Start-ups and other for-profit entities may apply only as co-applicants in collaboration with an eligible primary institution. The lead organization must be India-based, even if the proposal includes international collaborators.
To apply, the Principal Investigator (PI) must hold a PhD, MD, MS, or an equivalent degree, ensuring a strong academic and research background. Applicants should already have institutional backing in the form of confirmed salary and laboratory or research space, as the grant does not cover salary costs.
A key eligibility condition is the age limit: PIs must be below 50 years of age. However, women applicants are eligible for an age relaxation of up to five years.
SreePVF emphasizes that funded projects should not duplicate existing grants. If applicants have already received financial support for similar work, they must clearly establish the added value, distinct objectives, and additional impact their current proposal will offer.
The Foundation encourages collaborative, interdisciplinary research, and looks for projects with strong translational potential, measurable public health benefits, scientific novelty, and well-structured execution plans led by experienced researchers.
How to Apply?
Interested applicants must prepare a detailed research proposal addressing all evaluation criteria, including translational value, feasibility, innovation, and impact on human health. Applications should be submitted through the designated process by the host institution. Ensure that all eligibility conditions are met, and necessary institutional support (salary and space) is secured before applying. Collaborative and multi-institutional proposals are welcome, provided the lead institution is based in India.
