About Organisation
The Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) is a regional intergovernmental network that brings together scientists, policymakers, institutions and practitioners across 22 member and approved countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Its mission is to address the complex challenges posed by global environmental change—such as climate variability, ecosystem degradation, resource insecurity and disaster risk—by promoting collaborative research and capacity-building efforts. APN aims to enhance understanding of the physical, biological and human dimensions of change, support science-policy interfaces, and strengthen institutional and individual capabilities in vulnerable countries. Through its strategic programme agenda, APN fosters inclusive, interdisciplinary, and actionable science in the region, promoting broader participation (especially of early-career professionals) and encouraging networks that bridge academic research with real-world solutions and policy impact.
About the Grant
In its 2025 Call for Proposals, APN invites submissions under two streams: the CRRP (Collaborative Regional Research Programme) and CAPaBLE (Scientific Capacity Development Programme). The CRRP encourages multi-country, collaborative research projects involving at least three APN member/approved countries, with a focus on producing policy-relevant, place-based or synthesis work that addresses global change themes such as sustainable resource management, climate adaptation, ecosystems, data for decision-making and urban resilience. The CAPaBLE programme supports initiatives that build scientific capacity at individual, organisational and systemic levels—for example through training workshops, science-policy linkages, and knowledge sharing. Funding is aimed at supporting projects that align with APN’s strategic themes and sub-regional priority topics, and successful projects will typically start in October 2026.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include researchers, academics, practitioners and institutions based in APN member countries or approved countries in the Asia-Pacific region. For CRRP, proposals must involve at least three countries and demonstrate co-design, stakeholder engagement and trans-disciplinary collaboration. For CAPaBLE, institutions or networks across one or more eligible countries may apply to develop capacity in science, policy or communication around global-change issues. APN places priority on early-career professionals (ECPs) and encourages submissions led by or including majority ECP teams. The call excludes funding for institutional core running costs, administrative staff salaries or general purpose equipment such as laptops. Applicants must register via APN’s online submission system (APNIS) and follow the detailed guidelines in the Guide for Proponents.
How to Apply?
Interested applicants must register on APN’s online submission system (APNIS), select the appropriate programme (CRRP or CAPaBLE), and submit a summary proposal by the first deadline. If shortlisted, they will be invited to submit a full proposal later. All documentation—including thematic alignment, budget, involvement of partner countries, and capacity-building elements—must be uploaded via the portal.
Application Deadline
Stage 1 (summary proposal) must be submitted by Sunday, 30 November 2025, 23 : 59 Japan Standard Time (JST).
