About Organisation

The Zukunftskolleg, an Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Konstanz, promotes the independence of early-career researchers in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. It offers fellowships, a robust support network, and minimal administrative constraints to facilitate cutting-edge research. Scholars at the postdoctoral level can collaborate with distinguished senior researchers and peers from around the world. Zukunftskolleg is a cornerstone of the University of Konstanz’s institutional strategy, recognized as one of Germany’s eleven Universities of Excellence. The institute provides a vibrant research environment that fosters interdisciplinary dialogue, innovation, and meaningful academic exchange. In addition to its core programs, Zukunftskolleg collaborates with initiatives like the “Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour” and the Cluster of Excellence “The Politics of Inequality” to support interdisciplinary research. Its mission is further supported by foundations like “Manfred Ulmer-Stiftung für Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft.”

About the Fellowship

The ZUKOnnect Fellowships offer up to 8 (post-)doctoral stipends for a 3- to 4-month on-campus research stay at the Zukunftskolleg, complemented by a digital affiliation lasting 12 months. These fellowships aim to support early-career researchers from Africa, Asia, and Latin America to collaborate with one of the thirteen departments at the University of Konstanz. Fellows receive a stipend of €1,300/month for doctoral students and €2,000/month for postdoctoral researchers, along with travel support, research allowances, German language courses, and career development workshops. The program provides an opportunity to expand research networks, experience the academic environment in Germany, and bridge to the European academic system. Fellows are expected to actively engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, collaborate with Konstanz researchers, and contribute to the academic community through presentations and public lectures.
