The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is the training arm of the United Nations, dedicated to providing educational opportunities that support sustainable global development. In 2024, UNITAR reached over 550,000 learners worldwide, offering programs that empower people to drive positive change. The institute operates from several key locations, including Geneva, Hiroshima, New York, and Bonn, and collaborates with global partners to create impactful training initiatives. UNITAR plays a pivotal role in fostering knowledge-sharing and capacity-building efforts aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UNITAR Global Youth Scholars Development Programme is a year-long initiative aimed at empowering youth aged 18 to 24 to evaluate the real-world impact of the United Nations’ SDGs. This free program offers participants a unique blend of online learning, community-based research, and international networking opportunities. Over the course of the program, participants will engage with experts in SDG evaluation, conduct field-based assessments, and have the opportunity to present their findings to UN officials in Geneva. The program is designed to equip the next generation of leaders with the knowledge and tools to address sustainability challenges and advocate for effective SDG implementation.
