About Organisation

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is a global organization working to protect the rights, health, and well-being of children worldwide. With a strong presence in more than 190 countries, UNICEF partners with governments, civil society, and local communities to deliver life-saving support and long-term development programs. Its mission is to ensure that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, has access to nutrition, education, healthcare, and protection. UNICEF emphasizes equity and inclusiveness, prioritizing the most vulnerable children. In India, UNICEF has been a long-standing partner of the government in advancing initiatives that promote child rights, health, and education. By addressing systemic challenges and strengthening community-level capacities, UNICEF works to reduce disparities and improve outcomes for children and families. Through targeted interventions, research, and advocacy, the organization helps shape policies and programs that are sustainable and impactful. In the area of nutrition, UNICEF plays a pivotal role in designing strategies that prevent and manage malnutrition, enhance communication for development, and build the capacity of frontline workers. Its collaborative efforts aim to strengthen public systems and ensure better service delivery, making a measurable difference in the lives of millions of children and their communities.

About the Grant

This targeted initiative by UNICEF seeks Expressions of Interest for projects across Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. The focus is on strengthening nutrition interventions with particular attention to preventing and managing malnutrition in children. The grant supports collaborative work to document progress, identify best practices, and share insights to guide future programming. Key outputs include a comprehensive status report on state-led capacity-building for frontline workers, highlighting how states are investing in improved training and long-term outcomes. Another report will document the role of UNICEF and government partners in sustaining Centers of Excellence (CoEs), while additional research will highlight state-led models for managing Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM). An in-depth analysis will also capture lessons from three states that have advanced recovery approaches for Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), using improved take-home rations and home-based food solutions. Furthermore, a best practices document will evaluate Management Information Systems (MIS) for growth monitoring and CMAM programs, assessing field challenges and providing actionable recommendations. The initiative will conclude with a clear dissemination plan to ensure knowledge sharing and adoption at the national level. Overall, this grant supports building resilient systems for child nutrition and health.
