About Organisation

Rainforest Trust is an international conservation organization dedicated to protecting threatened tropical and subtropical ecosystems through the creation and expansion of protected and conserved areas. Since 1988, it has collaborated with experienced local conservation partners across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific to safeguard biodiversity and combat climate change. By supporting projects that protect endangered species and high-integrity forests, Rainforest Trust has helped conserve more than 62 million acres of land while working toward protecting millions more. Its community-focused approach ensures long-term conservation through partnerships with governments, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities.

About the Grant

The Rainforest Trust Fund Grant 2026 supports projects that establish or expand protected and conserved areas in tropical and subtropical regions. The programme funds initiatives that protect endangered species, preserve biodiversity, conserve high-integrity forests, and strengthen climate change mitigation. Two funding options are available: Feasibility Awards, which help assess conservation opportunities, and Protected or Conserved Area Creation Awards, which support the legal establishment or expansion of protected areas. The grant encourages long-term conservation through community participation, sustainable management, and collaboration with Indigenous Peoples, governments, and conservation organizations to secure lasting environmental and climate benefits.

Who can Apply?

Eligible applicants include legally registered non-governmental organizations authorized to work in the project country. Proposed projects must focus on creating or expanding currently unprotected conserved areas that protect endangered species, tropical or subtropical forests, or ecosystems critical for climate change mitigation. Applicants must demonstrate support from governments, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities while ensuring Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) where applicable. Projects should establish sustainable management systems, reduce biodiversity threats, regulate resource use, and deliver long-term conservation outcomes. Applications must clearly demonstrate environmental impact, community participation, and sustainable protection of ecosystems.

How to Apply?

Applicants should first confirm their eligibility and submit a Concept Note outlining the proposed conservation project. Eligible concept notes will be reviewed, and shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a detailed application. Rainforest Trust provides technical guidance throughout the application process to strengthen eligible proposals. Large funding requests exceeding $250,000 should be submitted well in advance of the scheduled application deadlines for review.
