About Organisation
The OPEC Fund for International Development is a development finance institution established by the member states of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). It was founded with the vision of promoting economic growth and social advancement in developing nations, particularly low-income countries. The organization partners with developing countries, the international donor community, and other development stakeholders to support sustainable development efforts. By extending financial aid in the form of loans and grants, the OPEC Fund contributes to projects in a variety of sectors such as agriculture, health, energy, education, and infrastructure. With a strong emphasis on being a demand-driven organization, the Fund prioritizes the unique needs and development priorities of its partner countries. It is committed to improving the quality of life in developing regions, fostering economic resilience, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The organization also plays a vital role in providing emergency assistance in response to conflicts and natural disasters.
About the Grant
The OPEC Fund Grant Program provides financial assistance to developing countries to support their economic and social development. The program offers three types of grants: (1) Country-specific project and activity grants, which may include technical assistance for project preparation, institutional capacity building, and support for larger co-financed programs; (2) Special development initiative grants aimed at addressing regional or global challenges through cross-border cooperation; and (3) Emergency aid grants, which offer humanitarian relief and assist in restoring basic services in the aftermath of natural disasters or conflicts. The OPEC Fund focuses on sectors like health, water and sanitation, transportation, agriculture, and energy. The fund also supports projects aligned with global development priorities and emergencies. Its aim is to be responsive to the development needs of its partner countries while promoting impactful and sustainable solutions through collaboration. The grant program is structured to accommodate both small-scale and large-scale initiatives, encouraging innovative approaches to development.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include both governmental and non-governmental entities such as private sector firms, UN agencies, international NGOs, co-financing partners, and research organizations. Applicants must legally operate in the country where the proposed project will be implemented. This includes valid legal registration and, if different, legal authorization to operate in the project’s country.
