By offering high-quality learning and experiential platforms, Inlaks seeks to create a multiplier effect—enriching not just the recipient, but also contributing meaningfully to society. The Foundation envisions its work as a catalyst for personal and professional transformation, with long-term impact on the broader community. Inlaks believes that providing individuals with access to top-tier resources, mentors, and platforms can transform their aspirations into achievements, thereby strengthening the intellectual and creative capital of the country. Every initiative supported by the Foundation is designed to fuel ambition, stimulate innovation, and support meaningful work in areas crucial to cultural, social, and academic advancement.

About the Grant

The Inlaks Research and Travel Grant (IRTG) is designed for Indian PhD scholars in the humanities and social sciences, currently enrolled at Indian universities. It supports short-term international academic visits for research, expert consultations, or access to specialized resources and libraries. The grant helps doctoral candidates strengthen their research through global exposure, knowledge exchange, and firsthand access to materials or scholars that are otherwise unavailable in India.

The grant covers a visit duration of up to three months, allowing recipients to visit institutions abroad for collecting research material, engaging with global experts, and utilizing institutional facilities. It offers financial support for international travel, maintenance, procurement of materials, and health-related expenses. Upon completion of the visit, candidates are required to submit a report and ensure that collected materials (literature, instruments, copies) are made available at their home institutions for use by other scholars. All grant-funded work must acknowledge support from the Inlaks Research and Travel Grant.

The initiative promotes academic excellence and international collaboration while ensuring that the benefits of the grant extend beyond the individual recipient to their broader research community. This grant serves as a stepping stone for Indian scholars to integrate global perspectives into their academic pursuits.

Who can Apply?

The Inlaks Research and Travel Grant is open to Indian PhD candidates pursuing research in the humanities and social sciences. Applicants must be Indian passport holders and residents of India, born on or after January 1, 1990. They must be registered PhD scholars at an Indian university for at least two years, but not more than three years, at the time of applying.

Candidates are expected to have consistently strong academic backgrounds, holding first-class degrees at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s level. Only those engaged in research within humanities and social sciences disciplines are eligible to apply.

In addition, applicants must provide documented proof of active and positive communication with international experts or institutions they intend to visit. This ensures that the proposed research collaboration or consultation is feasible and valuable.

The grant is not open to candidates in other academic disciplines, or those who have not yet completed two years or have exceeded three years in their PhD program. It is strictly intended for short-term international research engagements that enhance the applicant’s doctoral work. Commitment to scholarly development and the capacity to make academic contributions are essential qualities sought in potential recipients.

Applicants must submit an online application with personal details, academic credentials, a detailed research proposal, and a statement of purpose. Supporting documents should include academic transcripts, a PhD registration certificate, proof of communication with international experts, and a No Objection Certificate from their institution. The selection involves two rounds: a desk review and an online interview. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited to the final interview round.
