The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is a leading humanitarian organization working worldwide to combat hunger, strengthen food security, and support vulnerable communities. For this initiative, WFP is partnering with the NGO Southern Development Strategy (SDS) to provide targeted financial assistance to farmers and small-scale agricultural producers in Ukraine. The partnership supports existing producers involved in farming, livestock, beekeeping, food processing, aquaculture, and related activities. Through initiatives such as this, WFP and its partners help strengthen livelihoods, support local food systems, promote economic recovery, and improve the resilience of communities affected by conflict and other challenges.
About the Grant
The WFP SDS Microgrant Programme provides financial assistance to farmers and small-scale producers in Ukraine who are already engaged in agricultural production or related activities. These agricultural grants are designed to help existing enterprises recover, strengthen production, purchase essential equipment or materials, and contribute to sustainable community development. Eligible activities include crop cultivation, livestock production, beekeeping, food processing, and fish farming. Microgrants are available at three levels US$1,500, US$3,000, and US$5,000. The final amount is determined by a selection committee after reviewing the application and, for shortlisted applicants, conducting a verification visit.
Who can Apply?
The programme is intended for farmers and small-scale producers in Ukraine who already produce and sell their own agricultural or related products. Applicants should demonstrate practical production experience, sales experience, basic knowledge of their activity, production volumes, income and expenses, existing buyers, and a clear plan for using the grant. Eligible sectors include livestock, beekeeping, crop production, food processing, and aquaculture. Field-crop activities may cover up to 20 hectares. How to Apply?
Applicants must complete the programme’s online application form with accurate information about their existing agricultural activity, products, production volumes, sales, income, expenses, buyers, and proposed use of funds. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee. Shortlisted applicants may receive a verification visit to their farm or enterprise. Following assessment, the committee selects beneficiaries and determines the grant amount. Recipients must report on equipment or material purchases within three months of receiving funding.
