About Organisation

The Lighton International Artist Exchange Program (LIAEP) promotes cultural exchange and mutual understanding by providing opportunities for artists to engage with peers across the globe. It focuses on fostering dialogue, enriching creative development, and expanding access to diverse artistic practices. LIAEP supports mid-career visual artists and arts professionals, facilitating international travel and residencies to create meaningful collaborations. The program prioritizes projects that challenge cultural boundaries and encourage lasting connections between global art communities.

About the Grant

The LIAEP grant supports travel and residency expenses for artists to engage in international artistic exchanges. The program covers direct costs, such as airfare, transportation, meals, artist supplies, residency costs, and living expenses, up to a maximum of $7,000 per applicant. It aims to benefit artists who haven’t worked abroad before and prioritize travel to non-Westernized countries. Recipients are responsible for obtaining visas and permits. The program fosters collaboration between foreign artists and U.S. peers or vice versa, enabling cross-cultural growth and artistic development.

Who can Apply?

LIAEP supports mid-career visual artists and occasionally individual performers or dancers who demonstrate exceptional quality in their work. Applicants should have a well-established body of work and a clear plan for engaging with peers through international exchange. Artists from Kansas City and the Midwest region receive priority. Eligible projects include residencies or independent studies aligned with LIAEP’s goals. The program does not support group travel, prior travel reimbursement, student travel, equipment purchases, or exhibition costs. Residency plans must take place between March 2025 and February 2026.
