Call for
CCAC Food & Nutrition Challenge 2025

Application Deadline:
6 August 2025
About Organisation
The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a voluntary global partnership of over 190 members, including governments, intergovernmental organizations, and NGOs, working under the umbrella of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Established in 2012, the CCAC is dedicated to combating climate change and improving air quality by reducing short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), such as methane, black carbon, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and tropospheric ozone. These pollutants have a significant impact on both climate change and public health but remain in the atmosphere for a shorter period than CO₂, making their reduction an effective strategy for near-term climate benefits. The CCAC provides a collaborative platform for sharing knowledge, supporting implementation, and scaling up innovative solutions to mitigate SLCPs across sectors. The coalition aims to bring together diverse expertise and perspectives to drive impactful change in environmental and public health outcomes. CCAC’s work is action-oriented, focusing on enabling policy, mobilizing finance, and enhancing technological innovation. Through strategic partnerships and integrated assessments, CCAC promotes sustainable practices that enhance climate resilience and strengthen global cooperation. Their initiatives align with broader global goals for sustainability, development, and food and environmental security, targeting systemic changes in sectors like agriculture, waste, energy, and transportation.
About the Grant
The Food & Nutrition Challenge by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) aims to address the dual issues of super pollutant emissions and food insecurity within the global food system. This challenge focuses on identifying and supporting innovative, cross-sectoral solutions that reduce emissions of methane, black carbon, nitrous oxide, and HFCs, all of which are linked to various stages of food production, transport, and waste. The initiative acknowledges the significant role of food loss and waste in contributing to climate change and air pollution, and the importance of circular economy strategies to mitigate these effects. Key areas of interest include reducing food waste, improving cold-chain logistics using sustainable refrigerants, supporting agroecological practices, and creating robust organic waste management systems that feed back into soil health and nutrition. The grant supports projects that demonstrate practical solutions with scalable impact, especially those that connect rural and urban systems and integrate bioeconomy principles. Projects must propose a clear methodology for documenting greenhouse gas reductions and promoting resilience through climate-smart food systems. Winning proposals may also help inform future CCAC initiatives and assessments. Successful projects will be recognized at COP30, contributing to global environmental and development goals through local action.
Who can Apply?
The Climate and Clean Air Coalition welcomes applications from a wide range of non-profit organizations that can deliver impactful projects aligned with the Food & Nutrition Challenge goals. Eligible applicants include non-governmental organizations (NGOs), intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), and government entities. However, for-profit entities are not eligible to receive direct funding from CCAC. They may still participate in the proposed projects as partners, stakeholders, collaborators, or co-funders, especially if their involvement is critical to implementing the solution successfully.
To be considered, proposals must meet the following minimum requirements:
-
Be complete and submitted on time
-
Clearly demonstrate relevance to the challenge’s objectives
-
Propose a budget within the specified range
-
Be designed for implementation within 24 months or less
-
Comply with CCAC’s gender criteria to ensure inclusivity and equitable impact
Proposals that do not meet these criteria will be disqualified from evaluation. The CCAC encourages collaboration across sectors and disciplines to develop integrated approaches. Projects that include a robust methodology for tracking emissions reductions, have strong potential for replication or scaling, and consider local contexts and traditions will be viewed favorably during the evaluation process.
How to Apply?
Applicants must complete the Challenge Programme Concept Note and a Google Form with applicant details. The Concept Note (in Word format) and any supporting documents must be uploaded through the form and submitted to the CCAC Secretariat. If shortlisted, applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal and budget. Further evaluation will follow before the final selection is made by the CCAC Board.
Application Deadline
The deadline to submit the Concept Note and Google Form for the Food & Nutrition Challenge is August 6, 2025. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered for review.
Last Date To Apply
All applications must be submitted through the official Google Form, including the Concept Note and relevant documents, by August 6, 2025, to be eligible for consideration.
Grant Amount
Selected projects may receive up to $2,000,000 in funding support from the CCAC. Proposed budgets must fall within this amount and demonstrate cost-effective, high-impact outcomes within 24 months.
