About Organisation
The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) is a global organisation dedicated to strengthening research on violence against women, child sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. SVRI supports locally led, ethically rigorous and action-oriented research designed to improve policy and practice. Since 2014, its grant-making programme has supported researchers and institutions working to fill important evidence gaps and strengthen research capacity. The organisation also connects researchers, practitioners and policymakers through knowledge exchange, research partnerships and global networks.
About the Grant
The SVRI Data to Evidence Grant 2027 supports researchers in LMICs to analyse existing, ethically sourced datasets and generate new evidence on unresolved questions related to violence against women and child sexual violence. Instead of collecting new data, the grant encourages researchers to make better use of information already gathered through surveys, evaluations and research studies. Selected researchers will receive funding as well as technical assistance and mentorship in secondary data analysis. Projects should address a clear evidence gap and demonstrate how findings can contribute to policy, practice or the wider research evidence base.
Who can Apply?
The lead applicant must be based at an LMIC-based university, research institution or NGO. Independent consultants and individuals without institutional affiliation, as well as applicants affiliated with for-profit companies, are not eligible. The proposed dataset must have been ethically sourced, and applicants must have the necessary permission and approval to access and analyse it. The lead applicant cannot currently hold another active SVRI research grant or have previously received an SVRI grant. However, an institution whose previous SVRI grant has ended may apply. Applicants must be based in a country classified as low-, lower-middle- or upper-middle-income under the applicable World Bank classification.
How to Apply?
Applicants should identify an existing dataset relevant to VAW or CSV and formulate a focused research question that can be answered through secondary analysis. The proposal should explain the evidence gap, dataset, analytical approach, ethical safeguards, expected contribution and dissemination plan. Applications are submitted through ProposalCentral. SVRI accepts applications in English, French and Spanish. Applicants should ensure they have the necessary dataset permissions and institutional approvals before submission.
