About Organisation

The Honnold Foundation works toward a world where marginalized communities lead the transition to renewable energy with the resources they need to thrive. It promotes solar energy as a proven solution to energy poverty and supports community organizations delivering equity-driven clean energy access. The Foundation funds initiatives that improve social and economic outcomes while reducing environmental harm caused by fossil fuels and polluting fuels. Through its grantmaking, the Honnold Foundation backs innovative, community-rooted solar projects that demonstrate what is possible when energy access is designed and led by the people it is meant to serve.

About the Grant

The Honnold Foundation Grant 2026 provides unrestricted funding to support organizations expanding equitable solar energy access globally. Although funds are unrestricted, the Foundation often selects grantees directing support toward a defined project or initiative. Funding is awarded in two rounds: Round 1 disbursements are made in Spring and Round 2 disbursements in Fall, while all awardees are notified in Spring. Core Grant awards typically range from USD 25,000 to USD 150,000 and are intended to support solar infrastructure development that improves lives, strengthens resilience, and reduces dependence on polluting energy sources.

Who can Apply?

Eligible applicants include community-based organizations or groups with clear community connection. Organizations must have charitable status in their country or a fiscal sponsor, and U.S. Tribes or tribally-led organizations are welcome. Funding must primarily support new or improved solar infrastructure such as grid-tied systems, solar home systems, or solar water pumps. Applicants must identify a technical partner/installer and provide technical details of the solution. Projects must benefit underserved communities, reduce reliance on polluting fuels, and focus on a single community or small group, with community involvement in design and management.

How to Apply?

Applicants must submit their application during the 2026 grant cycle window. The application should describe the community served, the solar infrastructure plan, the technical partner involved, and how the project will improve equity and reduce environmental impact. Proposals should clearly show community leadership and participation, project feasibility, and how funding will support implementation. Applications must be submitted before the deadline to be considered.

Application Deadline

Applications for the Honnold Foundation Grant 2026 must be submitted by 12 February 2026, no later than 5:00 PM EST. Late submissions will not be considered.
