About Organisation

Roots was first developed in 2016 within Greenpeace, focusing on inclusive, community-centred approaches to non-violent direct action and tactical interventions. Over seven years, it has evolved into a holistic grassroots strategy that prioritises building local leadership and counter power as pathways to long-term systemic change. Roots supports communities on the frontlines of climate change by strengthening local organising, fostering collaboration, and enabling sustainable, community-led solutions. Its work centres youth leadership and community autonomy, ensuring that change is driven by those most affected by climate and social injustices.

About the Grant

The Growing Roots Grant 2026 provides up to USD 10,000 to support new and emerging grassroots initiatives addressing climate change impacts. The grant targets projects that are less than one year old and demonstrate meaningful impact in key areas: strategic dialogue and narrative building, advocacy to influence public policy, and community autonomy initiatives that strengthen locally owned systems. Grants will be awarded to 8–10 youth-led initiatives primarily from Global South regions, alongside eligible diaspora and BIPOC-led groups in the Global North. Selected grantees will also receive ongoing mentorship to strengthen their organisational capacity and long-term impact.

Who can Apply?

The grant is open to grassroots, youth-led initiatives based in Global South regions, including the Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Diaspora and BIPOC-led communities located in Global North countries are also eligible. Projects must be new or emerging, with initiatives no older than one year. Applicants should be working on climate-related issues and demonstrate a clear focus on narrative change, advocacy for policy influence, or building community-owned systems and infrastructure. Initiatives must show strong community engagement and a commitment to strengthening local leadership and long-term community power.

How to Apply?

Interested organisations must submit their applications during the open call period from 8 February to 28 February 2026. Applicants should carefully review the eligibility criteria and ensure their project aligns with the specified focus areas before applying. Required details about the initiative, its objectives, impact, and leadership structure must be provided within the application form.

Application Deadline

Applications for the Growing Roots Grant 2026 will be accepted until 28 February 2026. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered for review.
