About Organisation
The Climate Intervention Environmental Impact Fund (CIEIF) is a philanthropic fund supporting innovative climate intervention investigators worldwide. Its funding is specifically focused on understanding the potential consequences of proposed small-scale field tests before and during implementation. Rather than funding general climate research or technology development, CIEIF supports predictive environmental impact assessments, impact modelling and stakeholder engagement. The Fund aims to encourage responsible development of climate interventions by examining environmental, economic, social, public-health and safety considerations. It also promotes independent assessment and publication of results so that lessons from field tests can inform future climate interventions.
About the Grant
The CIEIF Grant 2026 will provide three grants of US$75,000 each for innovative climate intervention projects worldwide. Funding is designed to support focused environmental impact assessment, predictive impact modelling and/or engagement with potentially affected stakeholders for small-scale field tests. Projects should involve technologies that are sufficiently developed to be approaching field testing and have potential for meaningful climate benefits at scale. CIEIF expects supported projects to consider environmental as well as economic, social, health and safety impacts, and to make their findings available through peer-reviewed publications or independently reviewed reports.
Who can Apply?
CIEIF considers applications from qualified investigators and project teams developing innovative climate intervention technologies with potential for global-scale climate benefits. Priority is given to nonprofit institutions, including academic institutions, although private businesses preparing climate intervention field tests may also be considered. Individuals and student projects are not eligible. The proposed technology must be sufficiently ready for a small-scale field test and the application must focus on at least one of CIEIF’s three core areas: EIA, predictive impact modelling or stakeholder engagement. Applicants must also identify relevant permits, prior research and publications, consultants, other funding sources and potential insurance arrangements.
How to Apply?
Applicants should prepare a concise grant request addressing CIEIF’s required questions. The proposal should describe the proposed field test, prior research demonstrating technical readiness, expected environmental and wider impacts, government permits, scalability and how the US$75,000 will be used.
