About Organisation
The International Growth Centre (IGC) works to advance growth and development through evidence-based policy solutions. With a focus on fostering sustainable economic growth, the IGC collaborates with various partners to generate and use rigorous data to improve policies in developing countries. Their mission is to support policy reforms that enable prosperity, reduce poverty, and enhance livelihoods.
About the Grant
The Agri-SME Evidence Fund offers grants of up to £100,000 to support research projects that explore key issues at the intersection of agriculture, finance, and SMEs. The fund prioritizes research that addresses critical gaps in understanding, such as the supply and demand for loans in agri-SMEs, the impact of access to credit on livelihoods, and the role of enabling environments in credit markets. Research proposals that focus on gender, youth, food security, nutrition, climate change, and the creation of research infrastructure are encouraged. Grants support various project types, including exploratory research, pilots, and fully developed research projects.
Who can Apply?
The Agri-SME Evidence Fund invites applications from researchers worldwide, with a particular emphasis on researchers from low- and middle-income countries. Eligible applicants include PhD students, early-career researchers, and experienced researchers. The lead Principal Investigator (PI) of a proposal must hold or be pursuing a PhD, while co-PIs should typically have similar qualifications. Applicants must have the capacity to conduct research according to the proposed timeline and ensure the project aligns with the fund’s priorities, with a strong emphasis on empirical rigor and economic research principles.
