The organization remains committed to nurturing the next generation of behavior scientists by providing targeted grants, educational resources, and recognition for exemplary work in the field.
About the Grant
The Innovative Student Research Grant in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) supports graduate-level research focused on DEI issues within or related to behavior analysis. The program funds empirical, methodologically sound studies that explore significant questions, such as the effectiveness of DEI initiatives in educational, organizational, or community contexts. Projects may be interdisciplinary but must include a clear behavioral component. Each year, one grant between US$1,000 and US$5,000 is awarded, though SABA reserves the right to withhold the grant if applications do not meet its standards. Eligible projects can include team-based studies with one principal investigator, and recipients may reapply for continuation funding. By encouraging innovative and inclusive research, this grant seeks to expand the understanding and application of DEI principles in behavior analysis, promoting equitable outcomes and advancing social justice through behavioral science.
Who can Apply?
The grant is open to master’s and doctoral students enrolled or accepted in graduate programs in psychology, education, behavioral science, or related disciplines that include behavior analysis. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to research in basic, applied, or translational behavior analysis and show readiness to conduct empirical work addressing DEI concerns. Projects should be feasible within the applicant’s academic timeline and supported by behaviorally oriented faculty. Required documents include a five-page research proposal (plus references), a biosketch, and a detailed budget. Two letters of support must be submitted—one from the academic advisor confirming the student’s ability to complete the research, and another from the department or program chair verifying institutional resources. Funded students are expected to submit a final report detailing project outcomes and expenditures to the SABA Board.
How to Apply?
Applicants must complete the official application package, including a biosketch, five-page proposal, budget, and letters of support from an advisor and department chair. Submissions should address project significance, aims, methods, limitations, and timeline. Completed applications are reviewed by the ABAI DEI Board, with final selections made by the SABA Board of Directors.
Application Deadline
Applications for the Innovative Student Research Grant must be submitted by January 14, 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered for review.
