About Organisation
The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) is Canada’s premier federal research funding agency promoting and supporting postsecondary-based research and training in the social sciences and humanities. SSHRC fosters collaborations that address pressing societal challenges, encourage innovative thinking, and advance knowledge creation across disciplines. By connecting academic researchers with public, private, and nonprofit sectors, SSHRC supports evidence-based decision-making, strengthens research capacity, and cultivates partnerships that contribute to Canada’s social, cultural, and economic development. Its programs are designed to empower researchers and institutions to generate impactful insights that inform policies, enhance communities, and drive sustainable growth.
About the Grant
The Partnership Engage Grant Program provides short-term, targeted funding for collaborative research between Canadian postsecondary institutions and a single partner organization from the public, private, or not-for-profit sector. Valued between $7,000 and $25,000 for a one-year duration, the program supports projects that generate knowledge with immediate relevance to the partner organization. The grants encourage co-creation, innovation, and the practical application of social science and humanities research. Projects may address one or more of SSHRC’s 16 global challenges, such as digital transformation, sustainability, health, inequality, and truth in the post-fact era. These partnerships aim to strengthen ties between researchers and community actors to create real-world impact.
Who can Apply?
Applications are open to Canadian postsecondary researchers, teams, and postdoctoral fellows affiliated with eligible institutions. Partner organizations can be from any sector—public, private, or nonprofit—but must operate independently and contribute meaningfully to the project, either in cash or in-kind. Eligible projects must demonstrate collaboration between academic and non-academic partners and show clear, time-bound objectives that can be achieved within one year. The research should address specific challenges or opportunities relevant to the partner organization. Proposals are evaluated on Challenge, Feasibility, and Capability, focusing on originality, potential impact, team expertise, and practicality of implementation.
How to Apply?
Applicants must submit proposals through SSHRC’s Convergence Portal, including project descriptions, partner details, and a detailed budget. Applications must clearly define research goals, demonstrate partner engagement, and align with SSHRC’s evaluation criteria.
Application Deadline
Applications will be reviewed on a competitive basis, and submissions must be completed before the closing date.
