About Organisation

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, commonly known as UN Women, is a global organization dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women. It works closely with governments, civil society, and other partners to design and implement policies, programs, and initiatives that promote women’s rights and eliminate gender-based discrimination. UN Women supports women’s leadership, economic empowerment, and access to justice, while also addressing violence against women and girls through coordinated, multi-sectoral responses. In India, UN Women collaborates with national and state authorities to strengthen institutional mechanisms, enhance women’s participation in governance, and ensure gender-responsive planning and budgeting. By combining policy advocacy with grassroots engagement, the organization aims to create sustainable social change and foster environments where women and girls can live free from violence, access equal opportunities, and contribute fully to social, economic, and political life.

About the Grant

The “Strengthening and Showcasing Model OSCs and Shakti Sadan under Mission Shakti” grant by UN Women India aims to reinforce and highlight effective models of One Stop Centres (OSCs) and Shakti Sadans across India. The initiative focuses on improving service quality, coordination, and capacity building to ensure that women in distress receive comprehensive, timely, and survivor-centered support. Through this grant, selected civil society organizations will demonstrate model OSCs and Shakti Sadans that exemplify best practices in providing integrated services such as legal aid, counseling, medical care, shelter, and rehabilitation. The project seeks to document and showcase successful approaches that can be replicated in other regions, thereby strengthening the overall implementation of Mission Shakti. The selected organizations are expected to engage with government departments, law enforcement agencies, and community networks to ensure effective convergence and visibility of these models. This initiative contributes to building sustainable institutional responses to gender-based violence and women’s empowerment.
