About Organisation
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is a leading international organization dedicated to advancing the rights and well-being of children worldwide. Guided by the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF works across more than 190 countries to ensure every child has access to health, education, nutrition, protection, and a safe environment to thrive. In India, UNICEF collaborates with governments, civil society, and communities to design and implement child-focused programs that address pressing challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and disasters. The organization has been instrumental in shaping policies and strengthening systems that safeguard children, particularly in vulnerable and disaster-prone areas. By promoting evidence-based solutions, capacity-building, and community-driven models, UNICEF fosters resilience and inclusive development. Its work in Assam reflects its commitment to protecting children in regions exposed to recurrent floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. Through initiatives focusing on disaster risk reduction, social protection, and continuity of essential services, UNICEF aims to minimize risks that undermine children’s education, health, and overall development. By engaging stakeholders at all levels, UNICEF creates sustainable impact and empowers local communities to protect and nurture children even during emergencies.
About the Grant
UNICEF has announced a call for expressions of interest to strengthen child-centric disaster risk reduction and shock-responsive social protection in Assam. This initiative seeks to address the state’s extreme vulnerability to floods, landslides, and earthquakes, which frequently disrupt essential services for children. The program aims to reinforce disaster preparedness systems, build resilience, and ensure the continuity of services such as health, education, nutrition, water, and sanitation during emergencies. Key focus areas include enhancing child-centered early warning dissemination protocols, institutionalizing community feedback mechanisms within the Inter-Agency Group (IAG) Assam, and expanding Community Facilitation and Resource Centres based on successful district-level models. The program emphasizes social policy, advocacy, and scaling community-led approaches to ensure children’s safety and well-being during disasters. With a proposed timeline from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, the initiative will prioritize effective partnerships that demonstrate clarity in objectives, cost-effectiveness, community experience, and the ability to work within the IAG framework. By aligning disaster risk reduction with child protection, the grant ensures stronger safety nets and promotes long-term resilience in disaster-prone communities of Assam.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include organizations with proven experience in disaster risk reduction, social protection, and child-centered programming, particularly within Assam or similar vulnerable contexts. Applicants must demonstrate a strong local presence and the capacity to work closely with communities, government departments, and inter-agency groups. Priority will be given to partners with the ability to scale community-led models, such as the Community Facilitation and Resource Centres, and to institutionalize standardized feedback mechanisms. Applicants should also show expertise in designing and implementing child-sensitive early warning systems and preparedness activities that integrate health, education, nutrition, and sanitation services. Proposals will be evaluated based on the clarity of activities, alignment with UNICEF’s objectives, cost-effectiveness, and the ability to deliver measurable results. Contributions from partner organizations, either in-kind or financial, will be considered an added advantage. Organizations must also demonstrate prior experience in working under frameworks that require coordination and accountability, such as the Inter-Agency Group (IAG) Assam. Overall, applicants should be committed to promoting resilience, continuity of essential services, and social protection measures that safeguard children in disaster-prone settings.
