We are honoured to share about Ms.Kiran Bir Sethi, Founder, Riverside School.

Solving for UN SDG 4: Quality Education. Her work towards inclusive and equitable quality education promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all is commendable.

Ms. Kiran Bir Sethi is a designer, educator, and social entrepreneur who has dedicated her life to empowering children to become changemakers in their communities by using design thinking in their education, hence reforming how we study and teach in our classrooms.

Her passion for change started in the classroom. She founded Riverside School in Jan 2001, a unique learning environment that uses design processes to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in students. This wasn’t just about academics; it was about equipping children with the tools they needed to tackle real-world challenges.

But Kiran’s vision extended beyond the walls of her school. In 2009, she launched Design for Change, a global movement that empowers children to identify problems in their communities and design solutions using a simple four-step process:

  1. Feel: Identify a community need or injustice.
  2. Imagine: Dream of a better world.
  3. Do: Take action to create change.
  4. Share: Inspire others to join the movement.

This powerful framework has ignited a wave of change in over 60 countries, impacting over 2.2 million children. From tackling environmental issues to promoting gender equality, these young changemakers are proving that age is no barrier   to making a difference.

Kiran’s achievements haven’t gone unnoticed. She is an Ashoka Fellow and the recipient of the Call to Conscience Award by the King Centre at Stanford. But her greatest reward lies in the countless stories of children who have used design thinking to make their communities better places.

Ms. Kiran Bir Sethi is an inspiration to us all. Her story reminds us that everyone has the potential to create positive change.
