About the Grant

The Research and Development Projects Funding Scheme supports local non-profit-making organisations in Hong Kong undertaking research and development projects related to environmental protection and conservation. Projects are expected to address environmental challenges through research, innovation, development of practical solutions or community-based approaches. Educational institutions are also encouraged to participate. The scheme is designed to help organisations develop ideas and solutions that can contribute to environmental sustainability while strengthening research, education and community involvement.

Who can Apply?

The scheme is open to local non-profit-making organisations in Hong Kong. Potential applicants include community bodies, green groups, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, universities and other eligible higher education institutions. Applicants must be able to demonstrate their non-profit-making status through the required supporting documentation. Examples include Section 88 tax-exempt charities and registered non-profit organisations. Proposed projects should focus on research and development related to environmental protection or conservation and should demonstrate clear environmental relevance.

How to Apply?

Eligible organisations should prepare a clear research and development proposal explaining the environmental challenge being addressed, project objectives, proposed approach, innovative elements, expected outcomes and contribution to environmental protection or conservation. Applicants should also prepare the required documents demonstrating their non-profit status. Proposals are subject to vetting by the relevant subcommittee. Projects exceeding HK$2 million may require an in-person presentation by the principal investigator.
