About the Grant
The BNEF Pioneers program, established over a decade ago, identifies breakthrough technologies and innovations with the potential to accelerate decarbonization and combat climate change. In 2025, the program will focus on three key global climate challenges. First, it seeks innovations that make light industries, like food and beverage production, textiles, and glass, more sustainable. Second, it aims to foster advancements in energy storage, recognizing its critical role in balancing power markets and advancing clean energy transitions. Third, it looks for solutions that enhance climate adaptation capabilities, particularly in areas like agriculture, health, and disaster response. The program also features a wildcard category, open to climate-tech solutions outside of these challenges. Winners will be recognized as 2025 BNEF Pioneers and gain access to numerous benefits, including participation in BNEF Summits and startup pitching events, research visibility, and a year’s access to BNEF’s Web insights.
Who can Apply?
The BNEF Pioneers program is open to a wide range of applicants working on climate-tech innovations. Eligible participants include early-stage companies, either for-profit or non-profit, which can be private, public, or subsidiaries. The program also welcomes pilot projects and joint ventures actively addressing net-zero challenges. Additionally, NGOs, universities, laboratories, and other innovation-focused communities involved in developing net-zero technologies with commercial applications are encouraged to apply. The program’s inclusive nature is designed to attract a diverse group of innovators capable of driving impactful solutions across various industries. Whether focusing on light industrial sustainability, energy storage, or climate adaptation, applicants should present scalable and transformative technologies or solutions that align with BNEF’s goals of accelerating decarbonization and addressing climate change. Wildcard applicants, whose innovations lie outside of the identified challenges, are also encouraged to submit.
