About the Grant
The Small-Scale Surface Mining Training Programme South Africa 2026 is a three-month skills development initiative designed for unemployed individuals with previous mining exposure. The programme combines classroom instruction with practical workplace experience, mentorship and formal recognition of mining skills. Participants will gain knowledge in surface mining operations, mine management, workplace safety and technical mining practices. Running from September to November 2026, the programme aims to improve employment prospects and strengthen the capacity of local communities by developing skilled professionals for the small-scale mining sector.
Who can Apply?
The Small-Scale Surface Mining Training Programme South Africa 2026 is open to unemployed South African citizens aged 18 to 55 years living in Elukwatini, Tjakastad or Ekulindeni within the Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality. Applicants must have a minimum Grade 10 qualification, basic English literacy, previous exposure to the mining sector, physical fitness and no criminal record. Preference will be given to youth and women applicants. Individuals currently enrolled in NSFAS-funded programmes, learnerships or government employment initiatives are not eligible to apply.
How to Apply?
Applicants should submit a completed application together with certified copies of their South African ID, proof of an active bank account and proof of residence confirming they live in an eligible community. All supporting documents must be current and correctly certified. Applicants should also demonstrate previous mining experience and be available to complete the full three-month training programme.
