India’s climate future will be shaped not only in boardrooms, but in fragile, high-impact regions like the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR). Through Him-CONNECT, an initiative by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), science meets scale. Anchored at the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2026, Him-CONNECT brings together researchers, start-ups, investors, and ecosystem enablers to unlock the commercial potential of innovations emerging from the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS). It is a catalytic platform designed to move Himalayan climate solutions from pilots to partnerships and from research to real-world resilience.

Session #1

Climate-Resilient Infrastructure – Systems, Risk & Future Readiness in the Himalayan Region

The Himalayan region faces accelerating climate risks — from glacial retreat and extreme rainfall to fragile terrain and infrastructure stress. This session will explore how climate-resilient infrastructure is being designed, financed, and implemented across mountain geographies, with a focus on risk-informed planning, engineering innovation, and future workforce readiness.

Bringing together corporate implementers, civil society, development agencies, and skilling institutions, the discussion will examine practical solutions that strengthen regional resilience while generating sustainable employment pathways. The objective is to connect policy ambition with scalable, on-ground action tailored to Himalayan realities.

Session #2

Water, Waste & Livelihoods – Strengthening Himalayan Ecosystems & Economies

In the Himalayan region, ecological health and economic stability are deeply interconnected. This session will spotlight practical models that link circular economy solutions, water stewardship, and nature-based livelihoods to build long-term regional resilience.

Featuring startups, grassroots organisations, impact enterprises, and financing partners working in mountain contexts, the conversation will explore how ecosystem restoration, waste management, and local enterprise models can be scaled sustainably. The focus will be on translating innovation into inclusive livelihoods and measurable environmental outcomes specific to Himalayan communities.

India’s transition to a climate-resilient, low-carbon economy is not only an environmental imperative but a significant economic and investment opportunity. Nowhere is this more critical than in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) – one of the most climate-vulnerable geographies in India and a vital provider of ecosystem services, water security, biodiversity, livelihoods, and growing urban economies.

Over the past decade, the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) – a flagship scheme under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, has supported more than 230 research, pilot, and technology-driven projects across the IHR. These initiatives span climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods, disaster resilience, and nature-based solutions.

To accelerate the transition from research to real-world impact, MoEFCC, Government of India, in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), is organising Him-CONNECT – a dedicated two-day innovation and investment platform aligned with the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS), taking place in New Delhi from 25–27 February 2026.

What is Him-CONNECT?

Him-CONNECT by MoEFCC is designed to showcase validated technologies, pilots, and innovations developed under NMHS to:

  • Start-ups
  • Impact investors
  • Industry leaders
  • CSR and climate finance stakeholders
  • Policy and ecosystem partners

The platform aims to enable commercialisation, scale, and replication of Himalayan innovations across the greater Himalayan region.

Why Him-CONNECT Matters

Him-CONNECT addresses a critical gap in India’s climate and sustainability ecosystem – the disconnect between scientific research and market-ready solutions. By convening researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers under one platform, the initiative seeks to:

  • Unlock climate-tech investment opportunities in the Indian Himalayan Region
  • Facilitate public–private collaboration for sustainable mountain development
  • Support scalable, market-linked climate adaptation solutions
  • Strengthen innovation pipelines emerging from NMHS-supported research

As a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Him-CONNECT India represents a landmark effort to translate Himalayan research into investable, scalable climate solutions – positioning the Indian Himalayan Region as a hub for resilient, green growth.
